Q: I’m hard-wiring 160RC Series Alarms. Do I need a Control Switch?

It depends on the size of the system.

If you are fitting 4 or more alarms you should fit at least one Control Switch. For 2100 and 160RC Series Alarms, the Control Switch is the Ei1529RC

Q: Can I extend an existing hard-wired system using RadioLINK?

Yes. Change one of the existing hard-wired easi-fit bases for a RadioLINK base (Ei168RC) and slide the alarm back on.

You can then add extra alarms on RadioLINK bases in other locations without having to run cabling back to the original hard-wired system

Q: I’ve connected a device to a relay but isn’t switching?

  • Check that the relay has been connected correctly to the alarms
  • Check that the device has been connected correctly to the relay
  • All our relays have Volt-free contacts. Make sure you have put the required power onto the Common (C) terminal of the relay (if 230V device connect 230V Live to C, if 12V device connect 12V+ to C. Neutral/negative should be connected straight to the device and not through the relay).

Q: I’m fitting RadioLINK. Do I need a RadioLINK base for every alarm?

  • If it's a complete wireless interconnect system then a base would be needed for every alarm

  • If you're extending a hard-wired system, only one base would be needed on the hard-wire system and the extra alarms would each need a RadioLINK base

Q: Do I need a mains feed to each RadioLINK base?

Yes, each base needs a permanent mains feed. This can be taken from the lighting circuit nearest to that base – as long as it's a permanent feed

Q: How do you wire the RadioLINK Control Switch and Call Point?

You don't!

Both these units are completely wireless and are powered by their internal 10 year Lithium battery

Q: I want to fit RadioLINK but the walls are thick. Will this effect it?

The radio-frequency signal strength can vary depending upon the layout and construction of the property

The use of a RadioLINK Repeater (Ei420) between RadioLINK alarms can improve the signal strength if needed

Q: Can I put two RadioLINK bases on an existing hard-wired circuit?

No. This will repeat the interconnect signal continuously and you will not be able to silence the system

This can be avoided by House-Coding the two bases separately but please give our Technical Department a call on 0870 758 4000 to talk through this before installing the bases. Or, just drop us a note using our help form and we'll contact you!
