| Widely used mains wiring accessories
such as socket outlets, switches, ceiling roses and BESA boxes can
all weaken the fire stopping integrity of fire separating elements
such as walls and ceilings. Switches and sockets can also be the
source of a fire itself, due to arcing or defective wiring. An intumescent
gasket can therefore play two vital roles, containing the source
of some fires and secondly helping to prevent fire spreading through
holes made for wiring in fire stopping elements.
