BSI Group Kitemark
The BSI Group Kitemark is a trusted certification mark that can only be issued by BSI. In the UK, it is widely recognised as an indication that a product has been independently tested against specific standards, the manufacturing process is regularly audited, and ongoing compliance is maintained. It is recognised by both consumers and professionals.
Unlike CE or UKCA markings, the Kitemark is not a legal requirement. CE and UKCA marks are typically based on manufacturer self-declaration, whereas the Kitemark involves independent third-party certification by BSI, including product testing and regular factory assessments.
The Kitemark is commonly used across a range of product groups, including helmets, vehicle glass (such as windscreens), construction products, fire safety equipment, and electrical goods.
As a result, the Kitemark is often regarded as a premium mark of quality and safety, demonstrating compliance with recognised British, European, or international standards. Many organisations including local authorities, housing associations, housebuilders, contractors, and service providers will choose to specify Kitemark-certified products where the assurance of performance, compliance and reliability is important.
This can also extend to consultants, architects, and framework providers, depending on project requirements.
At EI Electronics and Aico, our relationship with BSI and the Kitemark programme spans decades – and it remains central to everything we do.
For smoke, heat and CO alarms, certification isn’t a formality; it’s an independent verification that a product meets the standard required to protect lives. The Kitemark goes further still – it’s a mark of sustained quality, consistency, and trust.
Certification status can change. For installers, housing providers, specifiers and homeowners, the BSI Kitemark Directory is the live, authoritative source of what holds current certification. Always check before you specify or fit.
