Knowing what alarms you have helps you find accurate information for that specific product, whether you’re checking instructions, looking up replacement guidance, or trying to understand what your alarm does. It’s also useful if you have more than one type of alarm in your home. To help identify the alarm types you currently have, watch the video provided below or read on to find out more.
Every alarm has a model number. The model number of each product is noted on the side of the alarm head. Look for a small label that includes the model (for example, you may see something like “Ei…” followed by numbers/letters). If you can’t see it on the side, check the back of the alarm head. The same label information may be positioned there instead. You can then search for it online to find a matching product.
Many homes have a mix of alarms, and while they can look similar at first glance, there are often small visual differences depending on whether the alarm detects smoke, heat or carbon monoxide. For example, smoke alarms usually have visible vents around the casing, heat alarms are commonly fitted in kitchens, and carbon monoxide alarms may be wall-mounted or include a digital display.
However, the easiest way to identify each one is still to check the label on the alarm for the model number, then search it online to bring up the correct product information. It’s worth doing this for each alarm individually, as the model number can differ from alarm to alarm. If it is an Aico product, you can search the model number on our website to find out further information.
