Brexit Statement

Overview

Aico, an E.i. Company, are a market leader in domestic fire and CO protection, pioneering new technologies and offering high quality smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms.

Since the United Kingdom (UK) referendum result on membership of the European Union (EU) in June 2016, Aico has been working to assess and mitigate the likely impacts of “Brexit” on its customers and suppliers under a variety of potential outcomes. This update is provided to give information to our customers and supply chain partners on our preparations.

Brexit focus areas

In our initial risk assessment, we have identified a number of key areas of focus for a potential Brexit impact, including

  • Customer service and supply chain
  • Financial performance, including the potential impact of tariffs
  • Employees and mobility
  • Regulatory frameworks and compliance
  • Innovation

Customer service and supply chain

Aico, is a wholly owned subsidiary of E.i. Electronics. We are unique in the industry because all of our products are supplied directly by E.I. Electronics.

We have substantial stockholding at our Distribution Centre based in Oswestry, UK. Our stocks are replenished daily and directly shipped on dedicated vehicles from the EU to the UK.

Aico do not foresee any issues relating to the receipt and supply of goods in a post “Brexit”

Financial performance

E.I. Electronics is based in the E.U and purchases it raw materials in US dollars. Therefore, any impact on the Euro and exchange rate fluctuations will be minimal. Aico are in a very strong financial position and any potential negative impact on our financial performance will be mitigated by this strength

Employees and mobility

Aico has a very high staff retention rate and employs directly from the local community. We do not rely on a migrant work force and as a result do not see any negative impacts of any restrictions implemented on the movement of people

Regulatory frameworks and compliance

Aico is a BS EN ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007 accredited company and as such operates strict quality, environmental and health and safety procedures relating to the stockholding and supply of electrical equipment. The philosophy of quality is extended to all our operations.

The above standards are internationally recognised and Aico will continue with the accreditations, whatever impact “Brexit” may have

Aico’s legal compliance is independently evaluated bi-annually and any changes resulting from “Brexit” will be implemented as necessary

Innovation

Aico, is a wholly owned subsidiary of E.i. electronics, Aico’s innovation and product development are led by the market we service. All our R&D teams are based in Shannon, Republic of Ireland and therefore we do not foresee any negative impact of “Brexit” on our product innovation.

Conclusion

As the negotiating deadline for exiting the EU looms closer, we recognise that a number of parties will understandably be concerned; these include customers and suppliers.

We understand that many customers have concerns. We will continue to review our position as more information is provided by the Government.

We remain vigilant and prepared for a number of Brexit scenarios, but based on the work already carried out we feel optimistic and ready for whichever of the potential Brexit scenarios may be realised.

At this stage there is no need to change your normal ordering pattern. If this advice changes, we will inform you directly.

The Declaration of Performance

The Construction Products Regulation EU No 305/2011 (CPR) came into force on 1st July 2013. The Regulations require all stakeholders in the manufacture and distribution of construction products to provide reliable information in relation to the performances of their products. Specifically, when placing a product on the market place, the manufacturer will be required to a) make a Declaration of Performance (DoP) for the product and b) affix the CE mark.

The Declaration of Performance is available for download below and describes the performance of our products to the relevant harmonised European Standard (hEN).

All products are tested by a 3rd Party independent Notified Body (NB) to the requirements of the harmonised European Standard (hEN) and together with the DoP permits the affixation of the CE mark to the products.
